Hi, I’m annie shaltz, NP. I’M a Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner in New York and California…

I spent my early nursing career working as an oncology and bone marrow transplant nurse and saw firsthand how our current health care system is keeping people sick and normalizing illness.

I earned my Masters degree from New York University where I studied adult primary care with a holistic subspecialty. It was there that I learned about alternative approaches to healing, including functional medicine.

Working in Functional Medicine these past few years has been extremely rewarding. I am able to spend more time with patients, hear their stories, and learn about who they are beyond just a constellation of symptoms. I am very passionate about helping my patients better understand how their bodies work and explaining complicated things in a simple, and easy-to-understand way.

What is a Nurse Practitioner?

I get this question from time to time even though NPs have been providing high quality care since 1967.

Nurse Practitioners are Registered Nurses who have completed a Masters degree. Our training and education allows us to perform a head-to-toe assessment, make a diagnosis, implement a treatment plan that may include changes to your diet and lifestyle, diagnostic testing or prescription medication, and evaluate the outcomes.

Nurses and NPs are trained to think holistically. That means we think about the whole person. We take into account social, financial, and cultural factors that can influence your health.

NPs can be found in primary care clinics, hospitals, and specialty practices. We are involved in creating health care policy at a local, state, and national level. We are involved in research, education, and health promotion.
